The Mobility Parking Permit
CCS Disability Action (Upper South Region) 224 Lichfield Street, Christchurch administer this scheme.
Visitors from overseas may wish to check with councils in the New Zealand regions they are intending to visit to ensure their overseas permit is recognised there. Alternatively a visitor's mobility parking permit can be obtained for the duration of the visit.

Driving and Vehicle Assessment Service - Alan Bean Centre, Burwood Hospital
The primary function of this service is to maintain clients safety and independence with private transport by assessing fitness to drive, recommending driver training and/or assisting with appropriate vehicle modifictions. The service is available to anyone who has a physical and/or cognative impairment. A discussion with a G.P. or Case Manager would be a good starting point if considering a referral to D.A.V.A.S.

Confident Driving for Mature Drivers
These courses are free and run by Age Concern Canterbury.The course aims to ensure that mature drivers (55+) maintain their confidence driving by highlighting changing traffic situations, identifying hazards, the impact of the ageing process and the importance of planning trips. It's a great opportunity to increase your knowledge of recent changes to road safety legislation and to ask questions about everyday driving situations. Age Concern Canterbury also run courses in Mobility Scooter Safety and Life without a Car.

Vehicle Modification
Modifications that can be made to private vehicles include:
- Steering and secondary control aids
- Left-foot accelerators
- Clutch conversions
- Additional car mirrors
- Wheelchair stowage equipment
Vehicle modifications must be carried out appropriately and a health professional experienced in driving training and an approved certifier will ensure that the vehicle is safe and the alterations meet the needs of the user.For more information click here
